Trump: I’ll Ask Bill Gates to Shut Down the Internet
After Donald Trump is done banning all Muslims from the US, he’ll consider shutting down the Internet to stop ISIS “jihadists”—or so he told a South Carolina crowd on Monday. “We’re losing a lot of people because of the Internet,” Trump said. “We have to see Bill Gates and a lot of different people … We have to talk to them about, maybe in certain areas, closing that Internet up in some ways. Somebody will say, ‘Oh freedom of speech, freedom of speech.’ These are foolish people.”
I wish some of these idiots would educate themselves on tech issues before spouting off.
Shutting down free speech? Sure, that’s bad. But the more immediate effect would be the total destruction of the US economy, along with most of the rest of the world.
The Internet isn’t just about people talking; it’s what they’re ‘talking’ about. Shipping coordination. Inventory control. Telecommuting. Telephone systems. Weather forecasting. Electrical grid control. Basically, anything commercial that was once done by snail mail, telegraph, POTS, fax, HF, face-to-face voice, heliograph, horseback, et cetera is shifting to the Internet.
If Captain Comb-over really wants to destroy America, have at it. I don’t think the results would be what he expects, nor do I think he’d survive having pissed off every segment of society regardless of political inclination (other than Hillary Clinton, of course).
