Petition or Phishing Expedition?

More than likely, you’ve heard about the petition to make the Dem National Convention a real gun-free zone. That is, no armed security for the wanna-be masters. Just like they want for us. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

If you really want to sign it, feel free.

That petition is being pushed by Alan Gottlieb‘s CRKBA. You know, the guy who bragged about helping write the rights-violating Manchin-Toomey gun control amendment. By and large, Gottlieb isn’t so good at RKBA, but he’s a whiz at using RKBA as a direct marketing tool to make himself a fair bit of money.

So do look at that petition. And ask yourself why an informal, nonbinding petition to a political party requires your full name, email address, and your postal address. Leave any one of those blank and it kicks back an error message.

Now ask yourself how Gottlieb is going to use your full name, email address, and your postal address. You’ll have to ask yourself, because CCRKBA’s privacy policy doesn’t tell you. In fact, if you click the link, at the bottom of the page, to the privacy policy you get this:

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to sign a pointless petition just so Gottlieb can sell me to more mailing lists.

No, hadn’t heard about that… and no, I have no interest in more junk mail. Amazing how that works, actually. I had a “free” hearing test a few months ago, and now I’m getting all kinds of “offers” for hearing tests and hearing aids in the mail. None in email so far… do you suppose that’s because I didn’t enter an email address in the form? 🙂 Thank goodness the junk mail is easy to dispose of. I think I already have enough saved to start fires next winter. The box is full, anyway, so I’ll just toss the rest in the big burn barrel.
