Breitbart Bullshit On Climate “Prediction”

I tend to like Breitbart because their articles usually link to the source of their claims so you can fact-check them easily. So in that sense, this John Nolte piece is good.

Nolte: Department of Defense Predicted Climate Change Would Destroy Us by 2020
Well, welcome to the year 2020! And welcome to yet another fake doomsday prediction number 42 from our renowned climate experts!

Fact-Checker Says: Nolte is full of shit. Read the report for yourself.

1. It isn’t a climate change prediction. It’s a what-if scenario they say is improbably extreme. Agencies do that all the time, to figure out what to plan for should the improbable actually occur.

In fact, in engineering that’s best practice. Would you care to fly in a airliner that was designed to work only in the most likely conditions? Or would you prefer one designed to survive sudden downdrafts without the wings coming off? Maybe you’d like it to have fuel capacity to maintain a holding pattern on arrival if traffic is backed up. It would suck to run out of fuel and crash after a long flight simpy because you were fourth in line to land, rather than first.

2. It wasn’t the Department of Defense. It was the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Pasadena; says so right on the Report Documentation Page. And note that the DOD isn’t even listed as a sponsoring agency. If you’re unclear on this, JPL is owned by NASA.
